Council Woman Murillo will teach us the significance of pictographs in Tongva culture, and what the Tongva use to paint and create art. Rocks will be gathered from natural resources. Each participant will paint their rock art that describes an important event in their lives, their family, or simply who they are as a person.
Council Woman Neminiski will teach us the significance of tobacco to the Tongva people, its usage, and how to gather and grow our own She will then show us how to create a prayer tie and why we make these ties.
In brilliant, authentic regalia, Ben Hale introduces a variety of dances and stories from tribes across North America. A few of the dances presented include: The Eagle Dance, Horse Dance, Grass Dance, and the ever popular Hoop Dance.

Chairwoman Goad will share knowledge of the Tongva people and where they came from. During this story, you will wrap sage bundles after a discussion about white sage and its medicinal properties. Learn how to germinate and grow your own, and take seeds home.
Join us as we gather in Downtown Los Angeles for prayer, healing, amazing dancers and drummers, delicious foods, and beautiful artwork from vendors. This one-day event marks the start of Native American Heritage Month.
